Hello families,
We’ve had another exciting and adventure-filled week at Choklits! From outdoor explorations to hands-on learning, it’s been wonderful to see the children engaging with their surroundings and embracing new experiences.
Excursions…
This week, we enjoyed getting out and about with our exciting excursions with a couple more planned in the near future. Keep an eye out on our socials to get a sneak peak at what we have coming up
Bluebell Hill Reserve…
The children thoroughly enjoyed connecting with nature, observing wildlife, and taking in the fresh air. We also had meaningful conversations about caring for our environment and showing respect for the natural world around us.
Walk Around the Block…
Some of the most meaningful adventures happen just around the corner! Our local walk gave the children a chance to explore their community, talk about road safety, and enjoy some movement in the fresh air. Along the way, they collected natural materials to use in upcoming art and craft activities — turning a simple walk into a rich learning experience connected to nature.
Easter Egg Hunt (April 16th)…
The children were full of excitement as they eagerly searched high and low during our Easter Egg Hunt! With baskets in hand and smiles on their faces, they worked together, followed clues, and celebrated each discovery with joy. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to practice teamwork, problem-solving, and enjoy the festive spirit together.
ANZAC Day…
As we journey through April, we will take time to reflect on the significance of ANZAC Day. The children will engage in meaningful, age-appropriate activities such as creating poppies, reading stories, and discussing themes of remembrance and gratitude.
To mark this special occasion, our kinder children will also go on a special excursion to Bluebell Reserve on 28th April. There, they will honour the spirit of the day by connecting with nature, sharing stories, and enjoying a peaceful picnic in the park.
Bush Kinder…
Our Kinder children embarked on another enriching Bush Kinder experience, where they are encouraged to care for the land, explore through hands-on learning, and grow in confidence within natural environments.
During this week’s adventure, Kinder 4 children made a fascinating discovery — bees gently buzzing around the native flowers. This encounter sparked wonder and curiosity, leading to thoughtful questions about the role of bees, how they gather nectar, and their importance in our ecosystem.
It was a meaningful moment of connection with nature, offering the children valuable lessons in pollination, respect for living creatures, and how to safely and calmly observe wildlife in their natural habitat. Sustainable Development Research Initiative…
Our April sustainability goal is Life on Land. Each room is engaging in meaningful experiences that not only explore nature but also support children’s learning and development:
- Nursery will enjoy a sensory experience exploring animals that live on land, in water, and in the air, supporting language development, sensory awareness, and early science concepts.
- Pre-kinder is observing snails and learning about their habitat and lifestyle, helping children develop curiosity, patience, and respect for living creatures.
- Kinder 4 is creating a winter seed inventory as part of our focus on Sustainable Development Goal: Life on Land, encouraging responsibility, environmental awareness, and understanding of biodiversity.
These hands-on experiences help children build their knowledge of the world, develop empathy for living things, and foster a sense of connection to nature.
Educator spotlight…
This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Chai, our Kinder 3 Educator.
Last week, Chai completed her placement with us and impressed everyone with her creative ideas and support in setting up the learning environment. She worked closely with our Kinder teacher to help organise and run the room smoothly.
We’re excited to share that Chai has now officially joined the Choklits Surrey Hills family and will be working in our Kinder 3 room! She continues to bring warmth, professionalism, and quality care to her role, supporting every child with confidence and kindness.
Thank you, Chai, for your passion, patience, and the amazing impact you make in the lives of our children!
Reminders…
Don’t miss out on all our events on the calendar below.
Kinder Bike Riding Fridays…
Our friends in Kinder 3 and Kinder 4 are bringing their bikes into Choklits on Fridays. The children cannot wait to see what bikes the other children will bring to the centre.
This week Dr Chan is visiting…
We’re looking forward to welcoming Dr Chan back to Choklits on Wednesday for his regular visit. These visits are a wonderful opportunity to support each child’s health and wellbeing in a familiar, comfortable environment.
If you have any questions or would like to speak with Dr Chan during his visit, please let us know and we’ll be happy to assist.
Kinder Lunch Boxes…
Every first week of the month is Lunch Box Week to help prepare children for school. Please pack an empty lunch box for your child throughout this week. Make sure you view our Autumn menu on our website here.
Thingle Toodle (Kinder Incursion)…
On Tuesday the 29th of April, the Kinder children will have a visit from Thingle Toodle. We will be sending information closer to this event.
Easter Celebrations Coming Up…
Easter excitement is in the air! The children have begun creating Easter-themed crafts, exploring various traditions, and preparing for our upcoming Easter Hat Parade at Our Lady Primary School.
This joyful celebration not only sparks creativity but also helps children connect with cultural traditions, build a sense of community, and develop confidence as they proudly share their creations with others.
