Over to Zoey…
I love working in early education and care because it helps me grow both as a teacher and as a person. It allows me to understand humanity at its most fundamental level, while also appreciating its complexities. The joy and laughter of young children, along with the small moments of happiness, are life-long lessons that bring me fulfilment. Working as en Early Childhood Teacher offers me a precious space away from the complexities of the world, enabling me to fully embrace each moment with these wonderful little human beings.
Throughout my career, I’ve been most proud of creating a welcoming environment where young children feel they truly belong, supported by individual attention and sincere care. I believe children thrive best in a safe and nurturing space, where they can reach and exercise their full potential, and where they feel encouraged and valued. Watching children grow and become their best selves continues to inspire me and motivates me to stay at the top of my game.
When I’m not at Choklits, I enjoy reading, especially philosophy, as it provides me with a personal escape from the world. I’ve also developed a passion for working out, and recently, I’ve been taking Pilates classes. I’ve found it to be incredibly rewarding, as it has strengthened my endurance and resilience, helping me overcome challenges. Additionally, I love cooking. The process of preparing meals and sharing them with my loved ones is one of my favourite ways to reward myself and show appreciation towards others.
A special moment I had was when one child I worked with displayed challenging behaviours that worried many teachers and troubled his peers. His actions and words often hurt those around him. However, I made a conscious effort to focus on his positive side, offering praise and feedback for even the smallest improvements, such as not being disruptive for half of a day, which I saw as a milestone in his development. For example, when he packed up his lunchbox, I highlighted his effort to the whole class, praising him for doing such a great job to encourage a positive relationship between him and his peers. And when he heard my praise for his effort, he came to me and said, ‘Ms. Zoey, tomorrow I’ll bring you a present.’ When I asked why, he responded, ‘Because you’ve always been nice to me.’ His words truly warmed my heart and touched my soul. I think he was trying to say that I was always there for him and trying my best to understand him. This experience reinforced my belief in the power of kindness and positive reinforcement. I will continue to be there for all children, understanding them as best I can, and helping them thrive in a nurturing environment.
