Over to Teresa…
I love working in early education and care because it allows me to nurture young minds during one of the most formative periods of their lives. I believe that children are naturally curious and capable, and my role is to provide a safe, supportive, and engaging environment that encourages them to explore, question, and grow. My personal philosophy is centered around respect for each child as an individual, celebrating their unique strengths and perspectives. I strive to foster a sense of belonging, inclusion, and cultural awareness, ensuring children feel seen and valued. By building strong, trusting relationships, I aim to empower them to develop confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.
Throughout my career, I’ve been most proud of creating meaningful learning experiences that inspire and empower children. One of my proudest moments was designing a series of activities that incorporated Aboriginal culture into the curriculum, aligned with Learning Outcome 2. Seeing children engage with these activities, develop respect for Australia’s First Nations people, and express their newfound understanding was incredibly rewarding.
When I’m not at Choklits I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, exploring local parks, and finding new walking trails. I also love getting creative through painting and crafting, which often inspires ideas I can bring into the classroom. Reading is another passion of mine, especially books that deepen my understanding of child development and education. On quieter days, I enjoy cooking and trying out new recipes, as well as relaxing with a good movie or podcast. These activities help me recharge and bring fresh energy and ideas into my work with children.
The cutest thing a child ever said to me was during a nature walk when a little boy picked up a leaf and exclaimed, “Look! This is the tree’s hug—it fell so we could feel it!” It was such a sweet and imaginative way of seeing the world, and it made me pause to appreciate the pure, creative perspectives children have. Moments like that remind me why I love working with young children—they have a way of finding beauty and wonder in the simplest things, and it inspires me to see the world through their eyes.
